Foods For A Healthy Prostate

The prostate gland is located just below every man's bladder. This organ is responsible for producing fluids that makes up most of the semen. The sad thing that could happen to a prostate gland is that it grows bigger as years are adding up to a man's age. This could lead to different health problems such as UTI, benign enlargement and cancer. More men on their 50s and 60s were reported to be victims of such conditions due to their prostate's growth. No cure was invented yet to keep the prostate from growing but there are foods that prevent men from having a prostate cancer.

Cancer-fighting Foods

Fruits have proven its effectiveness on fighting off different kinds of sickness. Aside from a good defense against weaker class of bacteria and illnesses, some fresh fruits are beneficial for the prostate gland. Lycopene which is responsible for giving fruits its red color and anti-oxidant features can give everyone a higher chance to prevent cancer. Watermelons, pink grapefruit and tomatoes are good examples of stuff that are rich in lycopene. Nuts and seeds can also be helpful as they can prevent the inflammation of the prostate gland.

Many vegetables such as sweet potatoes, turnips, carrots, beets and artichokes are also a good source of lycopene. Some vegetables contain sulforaphane which reduces inflammation and removes carcinogens. Broccoli, kale and cabbages are some vegetables that have this anti-cancer property. Zinc is a mineral that helps the body to make use of lycopene. It can be found on fish, shellfish and vegetable oils. Other foods that contain vitamins and minerals needed by the body to battle prostate cancer are legumes, pumpkins, baked potatoes and soy.

Benefits of Herbs and some Beverages

When we speak of natural remedies, herbs won't be gone in everyone's list. Herbs are not only used nowadays for minor sickness but it can also fight chronic and fatal diseases like cancer. Turmeric is known to be the most powerful antioxidant and it is also known to be effective against cancer. Damiana and the licorice root improve hormonal balance and function of the prostate gland. Garlic capsules are also being recommended by doctors to a cancer patient as it delays the cancer cells growth.

Some beverages and juices are also helping to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Studies have shown that drinking green tea everyday is effective against cancer. Other beverages that possess the same effects are buchu, Echinacea, goldenseal, Pau d'Arco, carnivore and suma. These should go in tea form and to be taken twice a day for better results. Pomegranate juice also has natural compounds that are proven to delay the growth of prostate cancer.
