Interior Designers Also Create Amazing Exterior Designs

By Vickie Daeley

If you live in Southern California, chances are that our wonderful weather is one of the reasons why you chose to reside in the area. In order to maximize your enjoyment of our fair climate, it's a great idea to transform your backyard into an amazing outdoor living space. A good Orange County interior designer can be a huge help in this process.

While you might be tempted to buy some patio furniture and an outdoor rug or two and do the work yourself, this is really not the best way to get the most out of your decorating dollar. You probably have very definite ideas about how you want the space to look and probably also have good taste, but a designer can take your ideas several steps further to create a true work of art in your backyard.

Sometimes when we work on our own, we end up with a design that doesn't really fit the space. A professional Orange County interior designer can design an outdoor living space to accommodate any size yard and create just the right mix of furnishings and accessories. In the end, the best part of hiring a designer is that you will end up with a space that is unlike anyone else's, a truly custom space.

At your first design team meeting, have a file folder handy that contains a few examples of the style that you like. It might include magazine spreads, examples of paint colors you like, a swatch or two of fabric and anything else that describes your style. You also need to be prepared to list what you absolutely do not like and also how you intend to use this special outdoor area.

For example, perhaps you really want a private space just for you and your spouse to use for relaxation. You might want to your space to be reminiscent of an English garden, a tropical paradise or a sleek, resort-style space. If you wish to entertain, you might also want to include a small or large kitchen, a fire pit or a fireplace. All of these are items that your designer can incorporate into the plans.

In addition to having a main outdoor living room, which might include your outdoor kitchen if you have room, it is fun to add a few special nooks in other spots of your yard. You might have a hammock resting between two trees or perhaps a small gazebo housing a caf table and two chairs. Every inch of your yard can be set up to maximize your usage, and your designer can take a good look at the yard and come up with many clever ideas.
