Becoming Memorable Driveways Without Depleting Your Resources

By Madeleine Wheeler

Driveways are short access roads leading from public roads to a house or garages. A private person or a group often maintains them. It is often found in private residences and in today's world is become a lot more common. More and more families are acquiring cars and driveways provide low cost, easy to sustain driving surface. This provides an enjoyable ride for drivers and passengers and increases comfort.

With a much tougher economy at present, many would consider this a high cost extravagance when it actually is not. A remedy to this is available to those of low economic means having a driveway is not reserved to those with bags of money to spend only. Using recycled materials is an option to be considered such as using shredded up rubber tires. Spreading this along a driveway is okay but alternatives that are much more attractive in view are also available.

The most common stylish yet low cost in materials is a pebble driveway. They are smoother than a common gravel driveway also; they are resistant to common wear and tear or extreme weather. The cost of getting a pebble driveway is extremely low in comparison to a driveway made from asphalt. This difference is drastic. A normal driveway, made from asphalt, in estimates of cost could go up to as much as a few dollars per square foot but in pebbles, it rarely exceeds less than ten dollars per square foot.

Taking care of a pebble driveway is relatively easy one only need rake it once in a while. Laying down a newer of pebbles after four to five years helps greatly in keeping it functional. Pebbles being smaller than gravel hold more attraction. They are readily available in a range of colors from browns to pinks even reds, this allows for individual creativity.

High suitability for extreme weather conditions is also displayed by these driveways. High traction capabilities are attributed to it and it keeps vehicle users safe. In cases of extremely low temperature condition or even snow, it rarely becomes unsafe or slick. The drainage capabilities are very high as the pebbles are loosely placed allowing them to be porous and preventing water logging.

To install a driveway one should scrape the topsoil of the intended surface. On the other hand, the depth of the driveway should be as deep as intend. If you require an eleven-inch thick driveway then this is how deep you should dig. The base needs to be level across but there should be a slight slope to divert water from the house or garage.

Compact the foundation of the dugout area by driving over with heavy equipment. Lay out a sheet of wood barrier fabric or plastic covering on the surface. Spread out the pebbles on the surface until a desired depth is achieved compact this layer. For this protective clothing, headgear and eye wear should be used.

The combination of class, low cost, safety and style is alluring to most. Its appeal can be increased by lining edges with large stone or planting trees and flowers. This is what makes driveways to be on high demand, in the market.
