Will Parking Tickets Go To A Collections Agency?

By Rob Sutter

It's hard to believe that a collections agency would be needed for so many problems in the world. Each of them is related to debt, though, from credit cards to library cards. To say the least, these agencies have a lot on their plates but it seems like another problem may be brought to their attention in order for it to be cared for. Those who have parking tickets to their names may soon find themselves contacted by this kind of agency if said tickets become too outstanding.

An article posted on WBBJ-TV talked about how the great number of parking tickets in Jackson, Tennessee would not be taken so lightly anymore. The city would not be actively looking to seek payments and rather will set the responsibility in the hands of a collections agency. In this sense, they will be able to gain payments much more easily. It's clear that agencies along the lines of Rapid Recovery can help but could these problems have been avoided so that such measures wouldn't have to be taken?

If you were given a ticket in this area, then you can be certain that it would have to be responded to as quickly as possible. The article said that all citizens would be given 48 hours in order to call the city to take care of the ticket. After this window of time is closed, then the owner of the car at hand would be issued a letter brought to their home. Keep in mind that a debt agency would not become involved on the matter unless the issue exceeded thirty days.

You could probably imagine that this story stirred many opinions of people, every one differing from each other. A good number of them believed that the city had no right to hire on an outside agency in order to take care of a problem that involves the city. However, how high can amounts such as these become until enough is enough. It's clear that this was an issue that was met with a great deal of controversy but I think those who were issued the tickets should be responsible for paying them off.

I strongly believe that this matter is no different from any other payment that has to be owed. What if you had an overdue library book and you had waited over a month before you gave the matter the attention it deserved? I don't think that anyone would be terribly happy about that but it's an act that has to be done. It is part of being an adult and I would like to think that those who have tickets to pay for wouldn't want to bring on a collections agency for such a small instance.
