General Statistics On Smoking

By Victor Hardwick

In the sixties, when the hippies controlled the planet, cigarettes were available just about anywhere, and they can smoke pretty much anywhere they please - even in hospitals! Different adverts of cigarettes filled the streets as well. But nowadays we are more aware about the different effects smoking can bring. It has also come to a point where smoking is restricted in public places, and fag packets are required to include fair alert about their product's unpleasant effects.

These are some basic information regarding smoking:

1. Smoking is amongst the most general kinds of recreational drug abuse. Smoking, once started on, is a hard habit to start to break. This is courtesy of a substance called nicotine which is present in tobacco leaves. Nicotine, like heroin and other addictive narcotics, make the body and spirit quickly become used to it that it doesn't feel normal without it.

2. 9 out of ten tobacco and gasper smokers taste their first puff before they reach the age of 18. And most adults who've began to smoke in their teenager never thought they might get hooked on the habit when they started. This is the exact same reason why they advise it is easier not to start on the habit.

3. Smoking increases a person's chance of developing heart illnesses like heart attacks and stroke. It also increases the chances of having different forms of cancer like lung cancer, throat cancer, and carcinoma of the mouth. It may give an individual lung issues like bronchitis, and emphysema.

4. Smokers are much more likely to be absent from work than non-smokers, and their illnesses tend to last longer. This means smokers may incur more hospital expenses because they see physicians more often. They have also got a disposition to be admitted to the hospital more frequently and for longer amounts of time in comparison to those who do not smoke.

5. Smokers have a lower survival rate after the operation than non smokers. This is down to the fact that smoking may also affect the body's immunity mechanism, that might cause delayed would healing, and reduce immunological response. And as the immunological response is reduced, there's a great chance that complications may come up after the op.

6. Periodontitis, a serious gum illness which may light the way to tooth and bone loss, can be due to cigarette smoking because it smoking has an effect on the body's natural ability to beat off infection and fix damaged tissues.

7. Smokers have a higher chance at developing peptic ulcers, which can on occasion be located in the gut and the duodenum, as compared to people who don't smoke cigarettes. If peptic ulcers are left untreated, this condition may be fatal.

8. Aside from non-trivial medical problems, smoking could also give a person bad skin. This is because smoking proscribes veins, forestalling oxygen and other nutrient elements from getting to the skin.

9. Cigarette usage might also leave a person with dog breath. And if it becomes determined, it may grow into a condition known as stinking breath.

10. The scent of stale smoke lingers and sticks to a smoker's attire and hair. And it's tough to remove.

Before starting smoking, consider it carefully and ask, "do I desire all these medical conditions to affect me?"

This might just as well help you decide whether you are going to light that first stick or not.
