Decorate Your Yard With Unique Bird Houses

By Audrey McGuire

Decorating one's yard with a variety of unique bird houses is a great way to attract birds. Essentially you are creating a safe place for these animals. While building this safe haven, you are also providing beautiful decor to look at.

A bird house can be hung in a tree or even a fence post. They can also be placed on an outdoor patio or even around windows. Those that love nature love the added bonus of easier bird watching that comes with having them nearby. All one needs is a few houses and a bit of feed to attract a large variety of species to look at.

Bird watching is a very relaxing hobby that can be done outside or by sitting next to a window indoors. A pair of binoculars and a camera are about the only tools one needs to enjoy such a peaceful way to pass the time. A hammock or a swing can also be useful for watching as well though. Some people prefer to just lay in a backyard hammock and listen to the different songs the birds are singing around them. This can be a great stress relief after a hard day of work.

A bird sanctuary can be created in any yard, regardless of size. By providing some shelter, a little food and access to water, you are giving them everything they need to survive and reproduce. This area also serves as a protective place from poor weather conditions and predators that might be a threat.

These homes come in many different colors, shapes and sizes. A handmade piece can be constructed of a variety of materials, such as wood or stone or glass. The shape possibilities are endless as well. They come shaped like the birds themselves, other animals or even historical buildings.

Custom pieces can be ordered for more outrageous styles. Perhaps you want a small mansion featured in a large back yard tree. Maybe you want one that looks like an apartment complex that houses several different species. Maybe you want something that is tailor made for a specific type to be attracted to. Whatever the desire, something is available or can be constructed.

Once you have hung all of your bird homes, other decorative items can start to be added to the area. Feeders and bathes are useful for the animals, but flags and statues can become a centerpiece to bring everything together. You can also add things like handmade stepping stones and ceramic decor to add some additional flare. The whole yard can be packed with a variety of an items. You could even use a universal theme throughout all of the items. Dreaming big, when it comes to yard decoration, is what is behind some of the most beautiful creations.

Displaying a collection of unique bird houses is an inexpensive hobby to take up. A large variety of houses can be found online through many different sellers. There is no need to spend a lot of money just to be able to see and hear the birds that will be attracted to your home.
