The New World Loves Funny Turbans

By Jennie Sandoval

The world is a ground for many people of different beliefs to flourish. The existence of various cultures all lead to the establishment of different religions or way of living. But as a whole, people still adopt things that they can identify with each other. Others may be so uptight with their beliefs but others take things lightly and even go fun with things. It is not surprising then that there are some who wear funny turbans on some gatherings.

There are plenty of groups whose beliefs share common practices. These beliefs or unity are manifested in many ways but the most common of which is the way that people are clothed. Others wear particular clothes not only as part of religion but to signify their status in society. These practices are still present because many people choose to honor their religious and societal beliefs.

People naturally want to feel that they belong to a certain group. This is a basic need that people still observe in the society where they belong and in many other things around. For people, it is but necessary to make the crucial steps of embracing the lifestyle and way of clothing of their group. Apart from belonging, they also nurture the relationship that they have established.

The Indians are very known for wearing the pagari. This is a very long sheet of clothe that is about eighty feet long and thirty feet wide. These are worn by the elders on special occasions. The older sons also get to wear them as their fathers transfer the responsibilities and authorities to them.

Jamaican Rastafarian will also be wearing clothes that serve as an identifiable mark for them. This would usually come in green, black and red which is a color identified with their religion. They often use this as well to protect their dreadlocks. Most people identify them because of this cloth.

The Sikhs have to wear a piece of garment as a part of their religious practices. Most of these garments set them from the people who also have the same religion. They are more than that as they are identified as warriors of their religion. They never cut their hair and so it can grow really long. To keep it from getting messy, the clothes also have the Chond Tora which is a metallic appliance.

The Jews also wear garments which serve to cover their heads. It is not something that was imposed to them by groups or religions but they practice it for style and safety. Most of them however are no longer using this and are instead wearing black hats.

The Akurinu of Kenya are very strict with their religious observance. Both men, women and children are able to wear the blue or white garment as part of their religion. They would also shave their heads so they can use it to protect their scalp from the harmful elements.

The funny turbans are often worn by performers. This is not something that they do because they want to malign religions or the like. It is actually accepted in many places now because people tend to be more open to these things. Without a doubt, many people love some fun in their attire.
